Enjoy January on our Appealing Patio

Posted by on Jan 13, 2014 in Blog, In The Media | Comments Off

2014 may bring in a new year this winter, but the San Diego January weather is as pleasant as ever. San Diego reviewer “SuzieeQQ” recently stopped by Taverna Blu in Del Mar and left a positive review:

“This little restaurant is in the midst of an outdoor shopping center, yet with a very appealing patio, with umbrellas (sun) and heaters (night time). There are a number of restaurants there, and we chose Taverna Blu because the patio was heated, and it had a great soundtrack playing, not too loud, but festive.

Don’t be put off by the “Greek” emphasis, I’m not that keen on Greek food and yet loved my lamb kabob, with a side of rice and a delicious mix of steamed vegetables. The word savory springs to mind, describing the lamb, and it was cooked to perfection, just pink, not in any way overcooked so the flavor was terrific. We sat outdoors and thoroughly enjoyed the music and ambiance (there is indoor seating, but this review reflects our outdoor experience). Might be seen as a bit pricey, but I thought it was a good value. Dinner for two was $50, with one glass of wine and tip inclusive. No suggestions for improvement!”

Considering a Dinner Party? Stefanie C. Recommends Taverna Blu!

Thanks to Stefanie C. on Yelp who visited our Irvine location for a colleague’s going away dinner party. Her 5-star review encompasses many aspects of the Taverna Blu experience – including customer service, food & drinks, atmosphere and serving skill!

She says:

“I have been here several times as I work in the Spectrum area and had such great service and such delicious food I decided that this would be a great place to have a going away party for a colleague. First of all, the owner George, is amazing. He took the time out to call me, to make sure of exactly what I wanted in terms of food, seating, drinks, everything. He made some great recommendations on what to order for large groups and my group was really happy with the result. We sat outside and even though the temp was quite cold, those heaters are fantastic and I was warm the entire time. We were waited on by Nadine and she was phenomenal, couldn’t have asked for better service, and as a 7 year serving veteran, I don’t give that compliment lightly. Prices were great, especially during happy hour and those appetizer sampler platters are huge and delicious, totally worth it!”

Reviewer Dave Upgrades Taverna Blu to 5 Stars

Posted by on Nov 21, 2013 in Blog, In The Media | Comments Off

Around six months ago, TripAdvisor reviewer Dave visited Taverna Blu and gave us a solid four stars for the taste and value of our combination plates. Now Dave is back and has upgraded us to a full five stars! He says:

“Everyone in my family likes it: the décor is hip and modern (with a great modern rock soundtrack played at the perfect decibel level: you can hear the music but still talk), and the Greek food is tasty with a modern twist. The meat sampler platter is a great meal for 2 meat eaters. Good desserts, good service. Bring a certificate for exceptional value. A must try for dinner if you’re in the area.”

Thanks, Dave!

“A True Taste of Greece”

Posted by on Nov 11, 2013 in Blog, In The Media | Comments Off

What a wonderful 5-star review from TripAdvisor user “Leesburg Wine Lady,” who visited our Del Mar location this past summer. Check out what she has to say:

“My husband and I arrived in San Diego and were looking for a place to eat, we found Taverna Blu, when I saw Casual Greek Dining…I looked at him and said we have to try it. From the moment we walked in and were seated we were treated great. Greg our waiter was fantastic, as a test I said “Efgarhisto” he replied with “Parakalo” ahhh a true Greek. Having lived n Greece for 5 years it is hard to fin authentic Greek food. We had Retsina (typical Greek wine), only enjoyed with Greek food, calamari, dolmas, the threesome dip…and as a final dish we had the flaming cheese with honey….can you say delicious. If you have been to Greece, lived in Greece then this is a pace to go. Actually excellent food…Thank you Greg for making our visit awesome.”

Thanks to Anna H. for taking the time to share her story on TripAdvisor. She says:

“took a break from shopping and stopped here since it smelled so good. Our waiter Clark was very attentive and right on with his recommendations. We had the chicken sampler platter and some lamb kebabs. Weather was fabulous and we could sit outside. Good food (excellent tsatsiki) combined with some good wine made for a scrumptuous lunch.”
